On Tap For Wed Jan 3, 2007

The following are some of the NYSE stocks that I will be keeping an eye on and possibly trading tomorrow. Obviously there may be news on other stocks that come out overnight or in the morning, so I may be trading those stocks as well.

Let's see if we can get 2007 started on the right foot:
  • Nucor Corporation (NUE) put in an offer to buy another steel company today for $1.07 billion; NUE closed at $54.66 on Friday
  • Homebuilder Lennar Corporation (LEN) stated today that it will see a Q4 loss as a result of a one-time $500 million charge; LEN closed at $52.46 on Friday
  • The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (GT) has been pushing new 52-week highs and will be resuming production after a nearly three month strike; GT closed at $20.99 on Friday
  • On Friday, Alltel Corporation (AT) broke out and closed at multi-year highs amid talk of a possible private equity bid for the company; it closed at $60.48
  • Also on Friday, Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. (MMC) announced it was selling it's Putnam unit for $3.9 billion, however the sale of this unit may have a negative effect on it's credit rating, since the Putnam unit contributed a fairly significant amount to MMC's earnings; MMC closed at $30.66 on Friday
  • I'll continue to watch both AT&T Inc. (T) and BellSouth Corporation (BLS); both are making new 52-week highs as AT&T completed it's acquisition of BellSouth; T closed at $35.75 while BLS closed at $47.11
  • New Century Financial Corporation (NEW) continues to push to new 52-week lows; it's coming up to some support at $30, so we'll see where it goes from here; NEW closed at $31.59 on Friday
  • I'm also watching Home Depot Inc. (HD); it's been trading in a range for all of December so let's see if it can get out of this range to the upside tomorrow; HD closed at $40.16 on Friday
